Privacy

Privacy that isn't an afterthought.

r34d is built to stay out of your way — and that includes your data. We collect as little as we can, never sell it, and never look at what you personally read.

This policy explains what r34d ("we", "us") collects when you use r34d.net and the reader app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the website, the web reader, and the mobile apps.

What we collect

  • Account information. When you sign up we store your email address and a securely hashed password so we can authenticate you. We never store your password in plain text.
  • Your feeds and reading state. The feeds you subscribe to, plus read, starred, and read-later state, are stored so the reader works across your devices. This is tied to your account to provide the service — it is not sold, shared, or mined to build a profile of you.
  • Basic technical data. Like any web service, our servers process the standard request data (such as IP address and browser user-agent) needed to deliver pages and keep the service secure. We don't use it to track you across the web.

Analytics

We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to understand which features are useful and where the product can improve — for example, how many people import an OPML file or use keyboard shortcuts. This data is anonymous and aggregated. We use it to make r34d better, never to track what you personally read.

Analytics respects your browser's Do Not Track setting: if it's enabled, no analytics are loaded and no third-party requests are made. We never run advertising trackers or cross-site tracking pixels.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and browser local storage only for what the app needs to work: keeping you signed in and remembering your preferences. We don't use advertising cookies.

What we don't do

  • No ads, ever.
  • No selling or renting your personal data.
  • No third-party advertising or cross-site trackers.
  • No reading, scanning, or profiling the content of the articles you read.

Data retention and your rights

We keep your account and reading data for as long as your account is active. You can export your feeds at any time as OPML from the app. If you'd like to access, correct, or delete your data — or close your account entirely — email us and we'll take care of it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to how we handle your data, we'll update this page and revise the date below. Continuing to use r34d after a change means you accept the updated policy.
